Windows of Mildred Hailey
Clients: Art Makes Place & The Community Builders
Four lawn chairs painted with residents from the Mildred C. Hailey community. The chairs' colors and designs mimic the new adjacent developments in the neighborhood which include affordable and moderate-income housing, the new Anna Mae Cole Center, and a new Innovation Center.
My lovely neighborhood painting helpers also shared ideas for what to include in the "windows" of the chairs to show a glimpse into their lives and important details in their homes. Ideas included plants, food, picture frames, and children. I also gave out small herb and tomato seed packets to connect the project to the set of community garden planters I was going to paint later that spring.
Shout out to Megha Nair for helping to build and prime the chairs (and for sharing arepas!).
