Futures NYC Poster Campaign (2022)
I was among six artists, animators, and poets to design a series of works with three resonant themes organized by NYC activists. The themes were 1) accessible care 2) housing rights 3)reduction of law enforcement.
The organizers requested that my works be formatted into comics to create room for small, nuanced moments and a light narrative. This month-long process included research into NYC policy, engaging with local organizers, and check-in meetings to work through compositions and concepts that captured a radical yet attainable future for New York City residents.
Works created in collaboration with Hester Street, VOCAL-NY, and Make the Road NY.
Accessible Care
With this comic, I balanced requests for a narrative that shows a personal and a broader healthcare journey.. I used the motif of gardens and growth as a way to show how caring for ourselves and loved ones can expand to caring for our community. The organizers from our engagement session shared anecdotes of how trans people often feel ignored or disrespected by doctors who do not understand their identities. Organizers also shared how creating more inclusive health care centers, needle exchange programs, and mutual aid networks can help open historically marginalized individuals seek medical care. I placed such moments into the narrative, using the growing plants to show how NYC residents want to connect across boundaries and care for each other.

I am currently in the process of updating each poster and will post the last two posters soon!
